I’m sure you’re all familiar with the iceberg infographic that gets circulated around social media (especially Linkedin); where the small top section of the ice represents the visible success a business experiences. Meanwhile the larger proportion of it, below the surface and obscured from view, is where the true measure of a business’s success lies. The bottom section is usually annotated with words like ‘Persistence’, ‘Failure’, ‘Hard Graft’ ‘Disappointment’ and ‘Sacrifice’; all the things we don’t usually like people to see.
As it turns out this is a pretty good analogy for filmmaking too – for both sides of the camera. When we post a slick, polished video for a new brand or business; it’s easy to forget (hide) the heartache and graft that goes in behind the scenes – both for us as filmmakers and producers, but also for the folks in front of the camera.
Over the past few months we’ve been working with Manchester-based environmental graphic design company Placemarque to produce a series of videos for their website and social. With Placemarque’s permission we’ve cut together a little montage of said ‘heartache’.
After all ‘There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.’
Check out the finished video we produced for Placemarque here.
